Read Job 4:3-4.
This is the impact I want my words to have, whether I'm preaching or counseling or casually conversing, whether as a pastor, parent, friend or neighbor. Work so as to keep me from foolish talk, Lord.

My Prayer (09/06/17)
Read Proverbs 10:16.
Lord, as I live for You today, may my words, thoughts and deeds promote life. May they be encouraging, strengthening, settling, soothing, fitting, liberating, expanding, uplifting. Should I begin to deviate into sourness or aloofness, warn me quickly by Your Holy Spirit. May the result, the "fruit", of this day be life for me and others.

My Prayer (08/30/17)
Read Habakkuk 3:17-18.
Lord, I can rejoice, even when circumstances taunt me that there is no reason. My joy doesn't depend on circumstances or in understanding why some of my prayers aren't answered (at least not the way I thought they should be). My joy is linked to my worshipful confession about You. Thank you, Joy-Giver!

My Prayer (07/26/17)
This prayer is based upon Psalm 124:1.
O God, Who has been both at my side and on my side since my earliest memories, thank You for Your steadfast presence! Thank You for my Pentecostal heritage, that from my earliest days I recall being in Your House. Had You not chosen this for me, I would undoubtedly be among those whose side You are not on. Thank You for calling me out of darkness and into Your marvelous light. Thank You for my salvation and for the assurance that God is for me, not against me. In Your strength and under Your tutelage, may I live for You all my days, stay on Your side and remain grateful.

My Prayer (07/19/17)
O Lord there is such a selfish, "Jacob" nature that is still too operative in me. I'm unable on my own to change my nature and I know it doesn't please You. Work in me to suppress sin and stir holiness. Please forgive my self-sufficient tendency (constantly seeking my own gain). Turn this Jacob into an "Israel." Teach me the fear of the Lord.

O Lord, there is such a selfish "Jacob" nature that is still too operative and successful in me. I'm powerless to change my nature and I know it doesn't please You. Work in me to suppress sin and stir holiness. Please forgive my self-sufficient tendency (constantly seeking my own gain). Turn this Jacob into an "Israel." Teach me the fear of the Lord.

My Prayer (06/28/17)
Read Hebrews 13:21.
Lord Jesus, make me perfect in every good work to do Your will. Work in me that which is pleasing in Your sight. Amen.

My Prayer (06/21/17)
Read Ephesians 2:10.
Lord, I desire to do the works you have prepared for me. These are Your will for me. Thank You that it is not Your design for me to be fruitless and frustrated. You created me for service and impact. I submit to this revelation and rejoice in it. Show me the next "work" or series of works You have in mind. Continue to fashion me, Your "workmanship" (Wow! What a thought!).

My Prayer (06/14/17)
Read 2 Corinthians 3:6.
Lord, make me an effective minister. My sufficiency is in You and from You. Keep me focused more on obedience than success. Should any praise come my way, help me remember to deflect it back to You in praise. You alone deserve the glory! Thank You for the privilege of the call.

My Prayer (05/17/17)
Read Mark 2:12.
"We never saw anything like this."
Jesus, whatever "this" is going to look like on Sunday, please allow it. Allow it not for its own sake. Allow it not that we would be amazed or entertained. Permit it so that all present might glorify You. Show Your power and receive our praise, O Lord my God.

My Prayer (05/10/17)
Read Luke 22:32.
Lord Jesus, High Priest and Intercessor, I'm asking You to pay for me today. Remember my weakness. Pray for me, that I would remain strong. Would You guide me by Your Holy Spirit today and keep me as far away from temptation as possible? Teach me how to turn past failures into something redemptive and useful. Thank You for using me in Your service. This kindness is so undeserved. I'm grateful You're not a "one violation and done" Savior.

My Prayer (05/03/17)
Read Matthew 16:12.
May I not have to be rebuked by You, Lord, in order to understand what You are saying to me. Give me clarity and understanding so I can more accurately perceive Your will, way and word. I don't want to "frustrate" You with my hard heart.

My Prayer (03/08/17)
Read Jonah 1:17-2:10.
Lord, You know how distracted I get in prayer, especially when it is time to repent. Suddenly, I hear every bird chirping. Appointment details hijack my mind. Other times, I get so wrapped up in praising You that I fail to repent. In praising You, I speak what You already know is true about Yourself. You also want me to tell You what You know is true about me. After I have prayed desperately, praised truthfully and promised sincerely, may I not leave Your presence until I have repented thoroughly.

My Prayer (02/01/17)
Read Luke 10:42.
Today, Lord, I choose the good part -- sitting at Your feet, listening to You, enjoying You, worshiping You. Today is not for problem-solving, counseling or meetings. I rest in You today. Calm my anxious, distracted heart and draw it out after You. Thank You for being my Savior, King and God.
(Maybe today you can't put aside certain things you would like to. What day this week can you take to get alone with Jesus and enjoy Him?)

My Prayer (12/28/16)
Read Matthew 17:24-27.
Lord, talk to me about the things others have already talked to me about. Yours is the voice that settles it. Yours is the perspective with the solution. Others bring a charge, You bring change. Others bring condemnation, You bring liberation. Others bring a problem, You bring a provision. Others bring accusation, You bring peace. O Lord, to hear You speak! Speak to me about what I don't know that You already know.

My Prayer (12/4/16)
Read Matthew 14:25.
Come to me, Lord, during my storm. When I know You are there, it makes all the difference. Thank You for not allowing me to go through this adversity by myself. It is comforting to know You are there.

My Prayer (11/30/16)
Read Matthew 23:25.
Lord, I don't often want to look too hard on the inside, since I'm afraid what I might find. You know I'd much rather pay attention to the outside. Resolved today, with the Holy Spirit's help, to live from integrity and not reputation. If death is on the inside, no outside alteration will change that. Lord, only You can make me clean on the inside and outside. My desire is to cooperate with Your work.

My Prayer (11/23/16)
Read Matthew 18:31.
Oh, for a sorrow that moves me to act! Deliver me, O God, from a sorrow that affects only emotion and not volition! What good is mere feeling badly? That changes not the situation, and makes me only more burdened and frustrated. Once I see it and feel it, may I do something about it. Guide me, Holy Spirit, not to stop until there is life change.

My Prayer (11/09/16)
Read Luke 11:46; Galatians 6:2.
Lord, today I want to be a burden-helper, not a burden-maker. May my words and deeds lead to helping, strengthening and encouraging Your people. May people be glad that I was around.

My Prayer (08/31/16)
When I think, Lord, that you are jealous for me, that messes me up! To my shame, all I seem to reciprocate is one sin after another. What's in me that puts You in such hot pursuit? It must have something to do with the quality of Your love.
Your intense longing after me is too wonderful for me to understand. With all the potential outlets for Your jealousy, You choose to pursue me? You're jealous for me? Way to overwhelm me, Lord!
Thank You for relentless love that is beyond my understanding. Today, be at work in me both to will and to work Your good pleasure (Phil. 2:13). Nothing brings You more pleasure than my appropriate response to Your red-hot jealousy. I want to love You the way You demand to be loved by me. You are my God, and I shall have no other.
