Thoughts from Mk. 7:24-30 (Part 2)

DIDN'T SHE UNDERSTAND SOVEREIGNTY?  (Probably not.)

• Sovereignty means that, as King of the Universe, God is always in control.
• Sovereignty means that what God has decreed will happen.
• Sovereignty means that nothing happens without God's knowledge.

Jesus is God, right? (Right.)  It appears Jesus was clear about His intent.  What letter of "no" didn't the woman understand?

THE WOMAN HAD A CHOICE:  SHE COULD RESIGN HERSELF TO THE INEVITABLE OR SHE COULD CHALLENGE THE STATUS QUO.

To challenge the status quo, that is to stand any chance of reversing her daughter's plight, the woman must engage Jesus.  She had nothing to lose.  Nothing would've changed had the woman said, "You know, Jesus,You're right. I'm sorry to have bothered You."

WHY DID THIS WOMAN DEBATE JESUS?

• She knew He was competent.  He had authority.  He did miracles.
• She knew He was compassionate.  He truly cared.  "surely, this man won't reject me," she thought.
• She knew He was controversial.  Was He the Messiah or not?  Was He the Son of God or not?  If there was even a chance "yes" was the answer, she wanted to be in His presence.

WHAT IS IT THAT YOU KNOW ABOUT JESUS?

• Have you heard He was an impeccable moral example?
• Have you heard He was an outstanding Bible teacher?
• Have you heard He was an effective social worker?

Let's reaffirm some other things about Jesus.

• Let's reaffirm that Jesus is competent.  There is nothing He cannot do.
• Let's reaffirm that Jesus is perfect.  He never sinned, He has no sin right now, and He will never have sin.
• Let's reaffirm that Jesus is compassionate.  He identifies with your weakness, your need, your humanity.

Why would Jesus (the competent, perfect, compassionate and powerful Son of God) turn you aside?

God forbid that a Canaanite idolater would have more confidence, more faith in Jesus than His followers.
