Read Proverbs 2:6-7.
Three Actions of Immorality: (1) flattery (speech); (2) forsaking (severing from the one bound to); (3) forgetting covenant. It isn't passive forgetfulness but casual indifference (active trivialization) to covenant responsibility.
Obviously . . .
1. Don't be this person to someone else.
2. Pay attention to the home front.
3. Be aware of the dangers out there and stay away from them.
4. Pre-decide boundaries and allow zero tolerance for exceptions.

Are You Giving Everything in Your Marriage?
"When
I stand before a couple officiating their marriage and ask if they're
totally committed to their mission, I feel like Mission Commander
Swanbeck when he contacts Ethan Hunt at the beginning of every
Mission
Impossible movie.
He knows the mission is demanding, but he also knows if Ethan agrees
to the mission he'll get under it with everything he has, giving his
life to achieve mission success. He knows Ethan Hunt will do it.
I say, 'Your
mission, should you choose to accept it, is to give yourselves to
this marriage.' "

It Doesn't Stop at Redefining Marriage
"Redefining marriage is never simply about marriage. It leads to the redefinition of reproduction and parenthood, produces a legal revolution with vast consequences, replaces an old social order with something completely new, and forces the adoption of a new morality. This last point is especially important. Marriage teaches morality by its very centrality to the culture. With a new concept of marriage comes a new morality, enforced by incredible social pressure and, eventually, legal threats."

What Is It with 25+ Years of Marriage?
Today we learned that Arnold Schwarzenneger and Maria Shriver are splitting after 25 years of marriage. Two high profile individuals. Celebrity couple. Made it 25 years. What happened? Not long ago we learned Al & Tipper Gore were splitting after a long marriage. What happened? All I know is that I don't like this. This cannot be good for our culture. It is a bad message being sent.
Is this a new trend -- staying together for a long time and then splitting?
Let's hear from those couples who have been married 25 years or longer. I'm sure there's more to your longevity than long walks. Share with us specific things you've done to maintain vibrancy in your marriage. Many of us aren't at that 25-year-mark for marriage. We don't want to become a statistic -- not now, not then, not ever. Here's your chance to speak to us. We're listening.

"Cringe" Begins This Sunday
January 30 and February 13 will be a two-week series called "Cringe." I will preach on two words that make many married people cringe. If you're married, don't skip out! If you know someone whose marriage is in trouble, this is a great series for them. If you're thinking about getting married, this will be helpful instruction.
