John Piper used a term to describe those who get caught up with fascinating but secondary matters. He called this tendency "mentality for the marginal."
These investigators pursue an explanation for some secondary thing, but they miss the primary thing. They are those who unintentionally trivialize the big idea.
In Matthew 2:2, the big idea is that influential Gentiles came to worship Jesus. The big idea is that Jesus is King of the Nations. Piper reminds us the story isn't about the star.
Don't get swallowed by the trappings, the secondary things, at Christmas. Keep it about King Jesus, the Savior of the World.
