Right after "seeking" (Col. 3:1) comes "setting." To "set your mind" means to direct , fix, concentrate, discipline and fill it. Setting it once isn't anough. Continue setting it. Your mind is like the mirrors on your car. They need constant readjustment.
Your mind doesn't just "end up" somewhere. It goes where you allow it to go, where you desire it to go. You might not cause the content (Some things just pop into your head out of nowhere!), but you are to judge it, "taking every thought captive" (2 Cor. 10:5).
Only you can choose what your mind continues to dwell upon. Satan can't make you continue to think anything! Obviously, "the things above" are superior. "Let your mind dwell on these things" (Phil. 4:8).
Does your mind need to be renewed? (Rom. 12:2). If you want the things above, you'll seek them. It all comes back to desire. I've found that one way to "set your mind on the things above" is to memorize Scripture.
