Saved, Seeking and Secure (Col. 3:1)
- "Raised" is contrasted with "died" (Col. 2:20). The Colossians died to asceticism and rule-keeping (legalism) as attempts at earning God's favor.
- Christ "raised" you, positionally, into heavenly places. Let your status be reflected in your seeking. The call is to "keep [on] seeking the things above." What things? Things God sees, things that please Him, things He has prepared for you (1 Cor. 2:9; Eph. 3:20).
- "Seeking" is an ongoing, deliberate process (Mt. :7-8) that is rewarded. "Seeking" demonstrates desire, interest and priority. Read Mt. 6:33.
- "Christ" is mentioned twice. He is the focal point (person) in this verse. By the way, He is the focal point of all Scripture! The Scriptures testify about Him (Jn. 5:39).
- Because Christ is "seated at the right hand of God," He has authority to grant what you're seeking. He extends the sceptre of grace.
Questions:
- Have you been "raised up with Christ" or are you still "dead in your trespasses and sins" (Eph. 2:1)? Just so we're clear, there is no middle position.
- Are you seeking things above or things below?
- There is coming a day when Christ, who is right now "seated at the right hand of God," will stand up and then descend to earth. The event is known as the Rapture (1 Thess. 4:13-18). Will you be ready to meet Him when He comes?
