Highlights from Ronald McDonald House

Saturday, August 17, some from Apollo Assembly of God provided a meal at the Ronald McDonald House in Pittsburgh.  The pictures tell it all.  I love my church!

Just A Reminder

This will be an "on-ramp" service for those who have missed church for a while.  They used to go, but now they don't.  That can change September 15!  If we invite people.

It doesn't matter so much why they left.  What's important is that they know there is still a church home for them.  Let's not squander this opportunity.

Ready, Set, Go (Update)

"Ready, Set, Go" Supplies 8.4.13
Let me give a big shout of thanks to those who provided the above supplies for "Ready, Set, Go."  Apollo Assembly of God partnered with AABA (Apollo Area Business Association) in this event.  Today, I get to call the coordinator and let her know of our donation. What a fun call that will be!

Once again, Apollo Assembly, you demonstrated that generosity is one of our core values.  I love being the pastor if this church!  On behalf of all the children who will be blessed by your love, thank you.

Ready, Set, Go

School Supplies for "Ready, Set, Go!" Event
This year Apollo Assembly of God is partnering with the Apollo Area Business Association to provide back-to-school supplies.  Don't let that box deceive you.  It is crammed full!  The deadline for supplies is Sunday, August 4.  Who thinks we can fill another box?

"...at this present time your abundance being a supply for their need..." (2 Cor. 8:14)

Don't Forget Judea (Ac. 1:8)

"...and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." (Ac. 1:8)

Jerusalem.  This is the locality of your church, the place where your church meets.  If you're at Apollo Assembly of God, then "Jerusalem" is Apollo.  If you attend a house church, then "Jerusalem" is the neighborhood in which you meet. Simple, right?

Judea.  I'll get to that in a minute.

Samaria.  This is your state and region.  Within them are people who have less in common with you.  They dress differently, speak differently and think differently.  They still need to be reached for Jesus!  You're glad to support such organizations as Teen Challenge.  When the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association hosted a crusade in the big city near you, wholeheartedly you led the charge.  You're not against working with other churches and denominations to accomplish regional or statewide impact.

The remotest part of the earth. Global missions.  You're moved each time you hear the phrase "unreached people group".  When a missionary comes, you pledge prayer and finances to that ministry.  You might have even gone on a missions trip.  You're invested, willing to do whatever it takes to fulfill Mk. 16:15.

Question.  What about Judea?  What about the area within your church's 15-mile radius?  What are you doing to reach that area?  It's not that you're disinterested.  It's not that you think it's someone else's job.  You don't believe it's the job of the area "megachurch."  I know resources are limited.  Take a minute and dream, though.  If resources weren't an obstacle, what would you do in your "Judea"?  Write it down.  That's vision, brother.  God gave it to you.  He will cause it to happen.

Final Results for Crop Walk 2012, Apollo, PA

Apollo Assembly of God finished 4th. Thank you to our donors.  With your help we raised $346 to help stop hunger.  A big S-H-O-U-T to our youth.  They were the largest group represented (15 walkers).  The goal for next year is $500.

New Responsibility for L.A.G.

I signed you up!  There's no way you saw it coming.  Relax.  It's painless.  L.A.G. now has the privilege of mowing the lawn at Lockport CARES.  The shelter is located at 192 Genesee St. in Lockport.  There isn't much lawn to mow.  It might take you 15 minutes if you walk slowly.  You can probably do it in 10.  Let me know if you want to help.  We're committed to mowing once a week.

First Check Received Today

The church received its first check (today) for clothing collected during the month of February. The amount is low, but it only represents two weeks. Also, we were just starting. It takes a while to gain momentum. What's exciting is that this is free money being poured back into minstry.

We Got the Clothing Shed!

Final approval was given yesterday. Thanks to all who prayed. The City of Lockport accepted the paperwork that our partner organization (St. Pauly Textile, Inc.) was able to provide. Thanks to Alex for all his hard work. You can read more about St. Pauly at http://st-pauly.com/.

The shed is being delivered Monday morning. It will look just like the sample above.

One Step Closer to Another Ministry

At 11:00 this morning I met with Alex from St. Pauly Textile. He is fairly confident we can make a clothing collection ministry happen. He was to meet with the code officer today. I will know the result of that meeting by Friday. Pending the code officer's approval, there is a possibility we could have a shed delivered Monday, February 8.

There isn't room here to outline all the details. I have a video that gives a concise description of how this works. If we get the okay to have the shed, then I will show the video February 21. Please pray.

New Ministry Announced 01.31.10

Last Sunday, Lisa announced the formation of a new ministry. People on food stamps are not able to purchase toiletries with food stamps. Food stamps can only be used for food items. Those toiletries are still needed, however.

Each week, we are asking you to bring in a selected item. All items can be purchased at the dollar store. We are only collecting 8 items right now. Each Sunday, we'll announce the item of the week. When enough of all 8 items have been collected, we will arrange a distribution.

Every donation must be given in its original packaging.

This week's item is toilet tissue.
