Hearing First (Gen. 27:22)

Read Genesis 27:22.

Any time you trust feeling over hearing, you're going to be in trouble.  When making major decisions, trust what you hear God is saying.  He will give you insight.  Don't let your senses overrule what your spirit initially receives.

When Hate Is In Your Heart (Lu. 23:13-25)

Read Luke 23:13-25.

When hate is in your heart . . .

  1. You will not listen to reason or logic.  Pilate tried several times to persuade the mass that Jesus was innocent.  They didn't want to hear it.
  2. You will make poor decisions.  The crowd, including the priests, demanded Barabbas instead of Jesus.  They wanted a murderer instead of an innocent man.  What fills the heart prompts the decisions.
  3. You will justify great injustice.
If you don't think you're capable of ever entertaining hatred in your heart, read Jeremiah 17:9; Matthew 15:18-19.

Drawing Your Line (1 Kin. 20:1-9)

Ahab succumbed to the first request but refused the second. He drew his line. What's your "line"? What has to happen before you draw it? Are you drawing your line too late? Isn't it time to declare, "Enough!"?

Delight (Psa. 1:1-6)

Direction of delight.  You do delight in someone or something.  That delight is manifested in wickedness (1:1) or righteousness (1:2).

Determination of delight.  What you delight in consumes your thinking (1:2).  Evaluate your thinking and you'll discover your delight.  What consumes you?

Destination of delight.  What consumes your thinking, and thus affects your choices, starts a pursuit.  The pursuit will lead to the fruit of righteousness (1:3) or to chaff (1:4).  Chaff is the light, temporary, unimpressive and disappointing result of unrighteousness.

Division of delights.  There will be a final separation of the wicked from among the righteous (1:5-6).  Life does not end at the grave!  Where you spend eternity is a matter of your delight and how that delight affects your decisions.  Surrender to Jesus Christ and delight yourself in Him.
