The Bookkeeper (Rev. 20:12)

Type your name into Google search. What comes up in the list? Hopefully it's just a list of blog posts, social media updates and good recommendations. What if it wasn't so refined? What if Google listed every negative, critical, cynical, backbiting word you said? What if Google listed a summary of your "life trash"?

While God doesn't always publicize content, nothing is hidden from Him. His books are more accurate, more updated, more full than Google could ever provide. God knows what you said, what you did, what you wanted to say, and what you wished you had done. He records words, deeds and intentions.

"And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books." (Rev. 20:12)

You will either live according to THE Book (The Bible) or be judged according to what God wrote in these other books.

God's Library

Did you know God has a personal library? Revelation 20:12 says "books were opened". Being a bookworm, I wanted to know what books are in God's library.

One book is called The Book of Life (Rev. 20:12). From this book He judges the wicked at the second resurrection. If your name is not in this book, let's just say you're in trouble. Eternal trouble. (The time to make sure your name is in this book is right now. If you're unsure, go to church tomorrow. Ask the pastor what you must do to get your name in this book. He will gladly tell you.)

Not only does God have individual titles but He has a series of volumes. They are similar to encyclopedias. This set, known simply as "the books" (Rev. 20:12), contains every deed of every person who ever lived. That's scary, isn't it? You can fool a lot of people, but there is no fooling God. His records are meticulous. He Himself wrote them and He is incapable of error. If your name is written in The Book of Life you don't have to worry about the content of "the books", though that is not an invitation to sloppy Christian living. If your name is not written in The Book of Life, you will be judged by your works and not by God's grace and mercy extended through Jesus Christ.

God has a book in which He records every one of your tears shed during difficult, dry, frustrating times of life (Psa. 56:8). This book is particularly meaningful and encouraging. I'm sure there are recorded occasions I've long forgotten. Not one tear escaped God's notice, though. Never let it be said God doesn't care for His people! He cares enough to write down the occasion of every tear. (I wonder how often God reads this book?)

Another inspiring volume is found in Psalm 139:16. There it says God recorded the number of your days. If God said you will live 90 years and 4 days, then guess what? You're probably in this for the long haul. (I would highly discourage doing anything to test the Lord concerning these numbers. His determining your days is not an invitation for reckless living.)

Thank God for His library. Thank Him for keeping good records. Thank Him for noticing your painful tears. Thank Him for prearranging the days of your life. Thank Him that your name is written in The Book of Life. (Again, if you're not sure of this, ask your pastor tomorrow.)
