Eight Units

Twenty-four lives will be helped as a result of today's blood drive. Thank you to all our donors!

Eight units is under our goal but, after all, it is a holiday weekend. I think after four days of 90-degree temperatures, people saw the sun and felt the cool breeze and said, "Let's split!" There wasn't the usual traffic along Beattie Avenue today.

No Appointments So Far

The blood drive is one week from tomorrow. So far, no one has signed up. I'm not stressed but I am a bit concerned. It's quite tricky to have a blood drive without any donors. Flyers have been hung, postcards have been mailed, announcements have been made. All I can do is wait.

Here are 7 reasons why you should donate.

1. There will be free T-shirts available for donors. (Guys, you know you need another yard shirt to replace the one your wife threw away because it was too worn.)
2. The one time you can eat Oreos and not have to worry about it. You're encouraged to have Oreos. That should sell you right there!
3. Check out L.A.G. newly decorated sanctuary.
4. Meet someone you don't know.
5. No one's on vacation that long. (Weren't you on vacation during the last blood drive?)
6. It might be your only opportunity all day to lie down and relax!
7. Jesus gave all His blood so He could save the world. The Red Cross is only asking for one pint. One pint can save three lives. Come on . . . be a good neighbor. Do the right thing.

Blood Donation

This was my worst experience doing this. I've given blood from my left arm and in the same spot at least 15 times. The technician kept slapping the spot where the vein was supposed to be. My vein just had a mind of its own today. She finally "found" it. Kind of. (All I know is that no needle is supposed to be inserted at that angle!) What's important is not the potential for discomfort but the opportunity to help.

If I can do it, you can do it. There is no one more squeamish than I am when it comes to blood. Go right now and make your appointment for a donation. If you wait, you'll chicken out.

Mothers, you gave birth. Giving blood can't be more painful than that! Guys, there is no one more squeamish of needles than I am. If I can do it, so can you.

The gift of blood is the gift of life. There are people who desperately need blood right now. Let's do our part to help. We can't solve the shortage but we can put a dent in it.
