Systematic, Relentless Temptation (Lu. 4:2)

Read Luke 4:2.

When you read Luke 4:1-13, the section known as "The Temptation of Jesus", it is easy to focus only on the three temptations mentioned. They happened, says Luke (4:2), when the 40 days were over. Luke is careful to record that the temptation was systematic and relentless during Jesus' 40-day fast. It wasn't that Jesus fasted 40 days and then came temptation.  He was tempted at the start, at the finish and throughout.

Have a realistic understanding of temptation.  You are being tempted or being set up for a temptation. Never get comfortable!  Never let down your guard!  You might have seasons where temptation is stronger, but don't expect seasons where temptation is absent.

The same two things that helped Jesus will help you:  be filled with the Holy Spirit and be familiar with Scripture.
