Linn Run State Park, Rector, PA

Today I went hiking with my son at Linn Run State Park.  There are hiking trails for both beginners and advanced.  We recommend the short, easy hike to Adams Falls.  After that, follow Flat Rock Trail.

Linn Run itself should be top notch trout fishing in the spring.  That water was cold!

We noticed abundant rhododendrons on Flat Rock Trail.  That walk will be spectacular when they bloom!  Offsetting the rhododendrons were towering hemlocks. I guess you just had to be there.

The turnoff for Linn Run State Park is on Route 30, a few miles east of Ligonier.  The drive on Route 30 between Latrobe and Ligonier reminded us of New England countryside.

We didn't want to leave, but the afternoon was getting late.  Being in the Laurel Highlands, we didn't want to risk having the mist change to snow.  Also, most of our return trip would be through deer country.

Next time we'll bring a picnic lunch, as tables are plenteous.  Josh and I highly recommend Linn Run State Park.  Oh, yes, be sure to wear appropriate footwear.
