That Jesus (Jn. 5:1-15)

That Jesus was an Initiator.  He went to the man.  The man couldn't go to Him and didn't call out to Him.  Jesus initiates with the helpless, hopeless and friendless.

That Jesus was an Agitator.  He asked the man to do what couldn't be done in human strength.  The man was weary and weakened, unable to be mobile.  He got up at the authority of Jesus' voice.

That Jesus was a Separator.  He told the man that sin had to stop.  Just as the physical had changed, so  now must the spiritual.  This could be why Jesus told the man to take the mat.  If the man would not stop sinning, he might be back on it, perhaps in a worse condition.  (Jesus told the paralytic the same thing. -- Mk. 2:11; Lu. 5:24).
