Zelda

This morning I visited with Zelda.  Many have never met her.  I'm sorry you didn't have the opportunity.  Before long she will leave this earth and enter the physical presence of Jesus.  There is no doubt in my mind she is headed for Heaven.  I read her favorite passage (Psalm 23), prayed with her for peace and strength, and sang "How Great Thou Art."  It was a precious time.

I'm sad because I know about the suffering she's endured.  I'm sad because I know the heartbreak and grief her family will continue to process.  I'm sad because I will miss her.

But I'm also happy.  I'm happy her suffering is about to end.  I'm happy she's at peace and isn't afraid.  I'm happy both she her daughters know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.  I'm happy she's soon to hear, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

I've enjoyed many visits with Zelda since my arrival as pastor.  I've listened to the heart she has for Jesus.  I've listened as her daughters praised her.  I've listened as others shared wonderful stories.  I've concluded that Zelda is leaving a wonderful legacy.

Legacy isn't something you leave; it's something you live. Live well today. Squander no chance to invest in someone.  Legacy is built by moments, not monuments or accomplishments.  Make every moment count.
