Colossians 3:5

Consult Rom. 7:23.

"Therefore."  The thoughts of Col. 3:5ff are linked with verses 1-4.

"Consider."  Reckon, account as, treat as.  Notice the intentionality.  We're back to the mindset again (Col. 3:1-2).  Action follows thought.

"Members of your earthly body."  The gateways for sin -- tongue, eyes, hands, feet, ears, heart (Prov. 4:23-27; 1 Cor. 6:19-20; Jam. 3:1-12).

"Dead."  Dead people aren't living.  "Consider the members of your earthly body as dead" is another way of saying, "Make no provision for the flesh."  Problem:  Though you reckon yourself dead to sin, sin doesn't reckon itself dead to you.

"Greed."  A grasping spirit (Josh. 7:21).

"Immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, greed."  What do they share in common?  They are a manifestation of depravity (wanting what is forbidden) and covetousness.  These fiveprovoke God's wrath (Col. 3:6).
