Jacob recognized the sovereignty of God (Gen. 30:2). Only God grants children. Jacob couldn't explain things beyond that. His confession was right.
Jacob could've followed his father's example but did not. Barrenness was in the family history: Sarah (Gen. 18:11), Rebekah (Gen. 25:21) and now Rachel. Abraham went to Hagar, Sarah's maid, for a child. Isaac, on the other hand, prayed to God for Rebekah. Jacob made the wrong choice. Following Abraham's example he went to Bilhah, Rachel's maid, for a child (Gen. 30:3-5). Jacob's confession (right words) didn't match his practical behavior. His confession of sovereignty would've been a good springboard for prayer and trust. Instead, Jacob jumped off another platform.
What do you believe about your situation? Go ahead, say it out loud. Now that you've heard yourself, is your theology correct? If so, what practical behavior is required from such confession? Let there be congruence between word and deed.
