Critical Questions for High-Impact Ministry (Jn. 9:1-12)

We're continuing to read through the Gospel of John. Today's reading is John 9:1-41.

Lord, what do You see? Jesus saw a man who was blind since birth (Jn. 9:1). Take a look around you. Did you see everything you were supposed to? Did you see what Jesus sees?

Lord, why are things this way? The disciples assumed the blindness was due to sin (Jn. 9:2). Jesus knew otherwise (Jn. 9:3). It’s always better to ask than to guess or assume. If you don’t know, then don’t pretend to know. Pray.

Lord, what do You want to do? Warning: Jesus’ methods might be unorthodox (Jn. 9:6-7). Try on this orthodoxy: “Go wash off the mud I just smeared on you.” Are you willing to do whatever Jesus says to you? (Jn. 2:5)

Lord, how do You want to use this moment? The man came back seeing (Jn. 9:7). No surprise there. Faith and obedience lead to victory, whether immediate or eventual. Jesus’ intervention created a fresh opportunity for ministry (Jn. 9:8-9). Take advantage of the open door (Jn. 9:11). Speak what you do know (Jn. 9:11) and admit what you don’t (Jn. 9:12).
