Christology Is Important (Lu 1:1-4)

Today's reading was Luke chapter 1.

If Christology weren't so important, why have so many written about Jesus Christ? Why do we have four gospels? Why do some writers try so hard to undermine Him?

  1. "Christology" is the study of the person and work of Jesus Christ.
  2. There are already many accounts of Jesus Christ: gnostic accounts, apostolic accounts and secular accounts. There are convervative writings and liberal writings: books, monographs, scholarly articles, and (to be kind) not-so-scholarly attempts.
  3. Not all information in some accounts is accurate and trustworthy. How can you know the truth? Study (2 Tim 2:15; 3:16). Form your opinion about Jesus Christ from the four gospels. Leave other literature alone for now.
  4. What you input will determine output. What you study will determine, to a great extent, what you believe. The source of your Christology will have great bearing on its accuracy.
  5. The Father, the Son (Jesus), the Holy Spirit (author of the Bible) and gospel writers -- these all want you to have accurate information. Accuracy is directly related to certainty. Don't be confused about Jesus. the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) will tell you what you need to know.

Spoiler alert: Matthew 16:13-16.
