Rogaine Effect (Judg 16:22)

I thought I'd share some of what I've been discovering in my devotions. I'll plan to do this occasionally.

For context, read Judges chapters 13-16.

Samson's hair began to grow again. I call it the spiritual Rogaine Effect. God kept rubbing grace, mercy, and forgiveness on Samson. The hair began to grow again.
  1. What a great, second chance for Samson. His sexual and spiritual failures would not be what ultimately defined him after all. Sexually, Samson seemed to prefer prostitutes. Spiritually, he got too familiar and independent. He knew his strength came from God. He knew his strength was tied to his hair. He knew Delilah was trying to get him to express the source of his strength. He knew, after several attempts, what Delilah's motivation was. (At least he probably should've.) Philistines kept showing up! In process, he lost his dependence on God (Judg 16:20). Did he deserve a second chance?
  2. What a great oversight by the Philistines. They thought one shave was enough, that initial humiliation was sufficient. They thought Samson would never be a threat again. Wrong!
  3. What a testament to the grace of God, that He would allow a second chance. God could've decided to be done with Samson, period. God does not evaluate His children based on the size and severity of their sins but upon the size and severity of their willingness to continue in His will. No matter what. God can make hair grow again, but He won't force continued interest in His will. You must do that.
  4. What an inspiring lesson for all wounded, weary, so-called "disqualified" people. Take one from Samson: It is preferable to die doing God's will with all your strength than to remain blind, bound, battered, and bored doing forced work for the "Philistines."
